Anonymous asked: I don't know if it's weird to ask, but I'm curious. What does transabled mean?

Answer:

It’s not weird to ask! It’s a curious subject and, apparently, the new tumblr topic of the week.

A transabled individual may have an identity of someone that is paralyzed— but is not actually paralyzed. Any disability may be substituted in for paralysis such as blindness, amputee, deafness, cerebral palsy, AIDS, and so on. [Source]

I struggle with the idea of transabled, especially because I can see how BIID (Body Integrity Identity Disorder) can be a neurological issue involving somatosensory mapping and proprioception in the brain.
However, there are ways to treat these kinds of neurological disorders—without CLAIMING the “identity” of disabled.

I bet Dr. V.S. Ramachandran would have something good to say on it…
